Fescue Equine Blend is a hard wearing tall fescue and Phalaris based blend containing no harmful endophytes for horses.
Fescue has several characteristics which make it an excellent forage for a horse grazing including tolerance to heavy soils, moderate water logging in low lying paddocks and the strong root structure can protect against pugging from horses. This blend can produce quality feed through the warmer months if moisture is available.
Improved leaf softness in the tall fescue over other traditional cultivars increases palatability, and a reduced aftermath heading increases quality.
Phalaris is best suited to heavier soil types with good levels of fertility, but can also be sown into lighter soils with good fertility. Confederate Phalaris has shown to be a solid performing winter active variety with excellent seasonal dry matter production, good persistence and the benefit of low tryptamine alkaloids – those associated with “phalaris staggers.”
