Flupropanate 745 – Long-Term Control of Serrated Tussock

Serrated tussock is one of Victoria’s most destructive pasture weeds – lowering carrying capacity, reducing feed quality, and spreading rapidly if left unchecked.

Open Range offers a proven, soil-active solution that targets serrated tussock both above and below the ground, providing extended residual control for farmers looking to reclaim their pastures.

Why Use Flupropanate?

• Soil-active herbicide – controls existing tussock plants and prevents seedlings from establishing.
• Extended residual effect – suppresses germination for 1–2 years, depending on soil type, rainfall, and application conditions.
• Selective control – unlike glyphosate, flupropanate won’t wipe out every plant, allowing native and sown species to thrive once serrated tussock is removed.
• Cost-effective – a single treatment can deliver long-term suppression and reduce reseeding pressure for seasons to come.

How It Works

• Flupropanate is taken up by tussock plants and translocated into the root system.

• Adequate soil moisture is needed for the herbicide to move into the root zone.

• It is very slow acting – results may not be obvious for several months, but the long-term benefits are significant.

• One application helps control germinating serrated tussock seedlings, particularly effective under dry conditions on heavy soils where 2 years’ control is possible.

Flupropanate vs Glyphosate – Why Not Just Spray with Glyphosate?

While glyphosate can kill mature tussock plants, it also kills everything else in the paddock. This leaves the soil bare, creating the perfect conditions for serrated tussock seedlings to germinate from the enormous seed bank. Within 2–3 years, the paddock often reverts to a weed monoculture.

In contrast, Open Range provides selective control. Many desirable native and introduced species remain, reducing reinfestation pressure. Thanks to its soil activity, it continues to control germinating serrated tussock seedlings for up to 3 years, keeping paddocks free of new seed set for as long as 5 years.
