Description

EXTRA diverse, summer specialist

Summer EXTRA Multi Species Blend is our most diverse warm-season forage mix, bringing together Shirohie Millet, Saia Oats, Popany Vetch, Fenugreek, Reaper Red Clover, Arrowleaf Clover, Crimson Clover, Rifleman Forage Brassica, Pasja II Leafy Turnip, Oracle Plantain, Chico Chicory, Black Sunflower, Buckwheat and Linseed into one highly diverse grazing and soil-building system.

Designed to maximise species diversity, this blend combines fast-growing summer grasses, high-protein legumes, leafy brassicas, deep-rooted herbs and flowering species into one productive pasture. Each species contributes differently, helping spread seasonal risk, improve feed quality, support soil health and provide grazing over an extended period.

With multiple rooting depths and plant types working together, Summer Extra is ideal for producers wanting a resilient forage system that performs through changing seasonal conditions while delivering a balanced diet for dairy, beef and sheep enterprises.

Species composition

This blend combines warm-season forages with quality and soil-support species selected for summer activity and grazing performance.

  • Shirohie Millet remains the backbone of the blend, providing dependable bulk feed and regrowth.
  • Oats provide early cover and grazing for September–October sowings but are low enough that they won’t dominate later sowings.
  • Popany Vetch and Fenugreek supply much of the protein and nitrogen fixation.
  • The three clovers extend legume diversity and contribute nitrogen over a longer period.
  • The two brassicas provide rapid, high-quality grazing without becoming the dominant component.
  • Plantain and chicory are included at rates that should allow them to establish while recognising they’ll compete with the grasses.
  • Sunflower, buckwheat and linseed are primarily included for soil function, pollinators and root diversity rather than total dry matter.

Why choose Summer Extra?

Summer conditions can vary enormously from year to year. By combining grasses, legumes, herbs and brassicas into one carefully balanced blend, Summer Extra reduces the reliance on any single species.Different plants respond to changing rainfall, heat and grazing pressure, helping maintain feed production for longer while delivering a more balanced diet for livestock. The result is a productive, resilient pasture that continues working across a wide range of seasonal conditions.Blend components may vary subject to product availability.
