ABOUT OUR SITE

Notman Pasture Seeds manager Peter Notman encouraged farmers to attend who are passionate about home grown pasture production, high performing species, and tactical pasture strategies.

We look forward to welcoming farmers to our new home at Purnim and showcasing cultivars and strategies we believe can shape the pasture base in the south west.

We’ll be discussing all things pasture, grazing and paddock management and our management of the site day and night including early weed control, fertiliser applications and the intensive grazing to replicate grazing practices with young stock.

Pasture productivity on the property was poor on taking over the property in late 2019 with low pasture density, reduced ground cover and invasions from various weeds and kikuyu summer grasses.

Strategies were put in place to ready paddocks for re-sowing including soil testing, glyphosate knockdown, a lengthy fallow and followed up with secondary herbicide knockdown and spike. In spring 2020, the Notman team planted the research site with compact Kubota speed discs. The speed discs worked well, with efficient and precise seedbed preparation.

Knowing which pasture species suit your soils, topography, management and enterprise needs is critical to making these decisions. Hopefully our field day can assist farmers in strategies to choose the right combinations of species for their farm

We look forward to showcasing the progress of the research site & providing in depth advice on how to manage these new pastures to south west farmers
