Description

Early maturing, winter active phalaris – replacement for Altas PG

Horizon Phalairs is a modern Australian-bred phalaris designed for medium-rainfall zones where persistence and early feed matter most. It establishes rapidly, producing strong autumn and winter growth to fill seasonal feed gaps when pasture supply is low. With a semi-erect growth habit and broad adaptability across soil types, Horizon delivers dependable performance in 400–700 mm rainfall areas and suits both sheep and cattle systems. Its improved establishment speed and winter activity make it a standout option for building resilient perennial pastures in mixed grazing enterprises.

Compared to older phalaris cultivars, Horizon offers reduced alkaloid levels, lowering the risk of staggers and improving livestock safety under good grazing management. Once established, it delivers a dense, productive sward that responds well to rotational grazing and provides high-quality feed across variable seasons. Horizon performs best on well-prepared seedbeds with good weed and pest control, and when combined with clovers or other legumes it forms a long-term, balanced pasture with excellent soil and drought resilience.
