Description

Fast, leafy summer brassica for reliable feed gaps – Rifleman Forage Rape.

Rifleman Forage Rape is a new modern quick-growing, leafy summer 70-90 day maturity leafy brassica that delivers high-quality feed fast. With its strong regrowth traits, Rifleman is ideal for grazing multiple times through summer, boosting animal performance, and keeping quality feed into the system through the dry periods.

Post-grazing, regrowth from Rifleman is leafy with new leaves developing from nodes low on the main stem. Expect two to three Summer and Autumn grazings depending on management and seasonal conditions. Rifleman yields well from a late Spring/early Autumn sowing and can also be used as a single graze option providing quality forage throughout the Winter.

A versatile brassica, it can be sown in either early spring or autumn. Rifleman Forage Rape is available in our Top Crop Forage Blends , such as combining with forage millet in our robust Top Crop Millet & Rape forage blend. Need a custom blend? Get in touch with Notman Pasture Seeds.

Key benefits of Rifleman:

  • Fast feed – ready to graze in as little as 8–12 weeks:Rifleman® establishes quickly in warm soils, providing quality bite in a short window to help cover summer feed shortages.

  • Multiple grazings – strong regrowth with sensible grazing management: If grazed above the growing point and given time to recover, Rifleman® can produce two or more grazings from a single sowing.

  • High quality – ME 11–12 MJ/kg DM, crude protein 14–20%+: Delivers excellent feed value for milk production, liveweight gain, and finishing stock.

  • Highly palatable – leafy crop that stock readily graz: Soft, lush leaves encourage strong intakes and reduce wastage in both dairy and beef systems.

  • Flexible sowing window – spring to early summer once soils are 10–12°C and rising: Can be sown after early silage cuts, winter cereals, or as part of a planned summer rotation.

  • Versatile use – suits dairy, beef finishing, and mixed systems: Ideal for boosting milk in lactating cows or driving growth rates in young cattle and lambs.

  • Fits many rotations – great after winter cereals or failed spring crops: Makes efficient use of paddocks that might otherwise sit idle, turning them into productive feed blocks.

  • Mix-friendly – works well with leafy turnip or millet for staggered feed supply: Blending with other fast-growing summer species spreads risk and extends the grazing window.
