IrriGate Soil Surfactant

IRRIGATE is a soil surfactant designed to help water move into the soil more evenly. By reducing water surface tension, it allows rainfall and irrigation to spread and penetrate the soil profile instead of running off or pooling on the surface. This improves soil wetting, reduces dry patch areas and helps water and nutrients reach the root zone where plants need them most.

IrriGate is a specifically formulated soil surfactant that enhances infiltration and penetration of irrigation water

IrriGate is a blend of both hydrophilic and hydrophobic block co-polymers that is commonly used in pasture, turf and cropping systems where soils show water repellence or uneven wetting.

The problem with some soils?

Some soils repel water. Instead of soaking in, rainfall or irrigation sits on the surface or runs off. This leads to:

  • uneven pasture growth
  • dry patches in paddocks
  • poor fertiliser efficiency
  • wasted irrigation

Soil surfactants such as IrriGate work by reducing water surface tension so water spreads and penetrates the soil profile more evenly.

Use IRRIGATE when you notice:

  • Water pooling on the soil surface
  • Dry patches in pasture or crops
  • Uneven germination after rain
  • Irrigation not penetrating properly

Mode of Action

The polymers in IrriGate enable the water molecule to adhere to hydrophobic soil particles and therefore enhance their capacity to absorb water. This action then creates a more uniform wetting of the root zone and allows moisture to move more freely throughout the soil profile.

It enables growers to improve the infiltration and penetration of water in certain hydrophobic soils and improve the lateral movement of water to more effectively cover the plants root zone. IrriGate also reduces water loss due to run-off and evaporation, with research showing the improvement efficiency of irrigation by up to 30%.
