Description

Arrowtown is a new generation of browntop, being significantly finer and denser than Egmont, Manor and Troy browntop. Arrowtown recovers rapidly from renovation and is an excellent choice for golf greens. Arrowtown has good year-round quality and is best suited to closer mown, high maintenance situations such as greens, tees and fairways.

Breeding history

Arrowtown was bred by PGG Wrightson Turf from exceptionally fine and dense plants collected from greens at Arrowtown Golf Club by Dr Alan Stewart.

Sowing rate and maintenance

Sow Arrowtown at 5-10g/m2 (50-100kg/ha) when sown alone. In mixtures with fine fescues or other cool season species rates of about half of this can be used, however the rates should not be
reduced when sowing greens. Arrowtown should emerge in 5-10 days after sowing. Full coverage can be expected after 8 weeks. First mowing on greens can take place at 10mm and be gradually
lowered to the desired height.
