Hosted by Notman Pasture Seeds & Cropmark Seeds in mid-November we invited top dairy farmers throughout the Western District to the Cropmark R&D Trial site on Graeme & Daniel Crofts dairy farm in Mepunga West.

Starting with an overview and open discussion of Graeme & Daniel Crofts farming operations at Mepunga West, it included conversation on their spray topping program to combat unwanted grass species including Barley Grass. The farm, 222ha, includes 50 per cent perennial pastures which were under the centre pivot irrigation. The irrigation area is 102ha.

Cropmark’s New Zealand Technical Director Matt Deighton spoke about the importance of breeding new cultivars for Australian farming conditions with persistence a key factor. and look at results from their research trials throughout Australia & New Zealand. Peter Notman focused on the importance of establishing perennial pasture & selecting the right cultivar to suit your operations.
